The Model for the Service and Support Centre (SSC)

The E-DRIM model for the Service and Support Centre will comprise key principles that such a centre should provide in order to respond to users/immigrants’ needs and expectations.

The model will contain a tool for self assessment. Professionals in charge of existing support centres for immigrants will be given the possibility to assess their organization vis-à-vis the dimensions highlighted in the model. Depending on the outcomes of the self-assessment exercise, professionals may decide to carryout specific actions so to reach the desired level of service.

The model principles are going to be identified on the basis of existing experiences (e.g. public job centres, information desks, etc.), and keeping in mind the needs expressed by immigrants.

Methodology for Language skills assessment

The E-DRIM methodology for language skills assessment addresses the needs of teachers, trainers and practitioners working with immigrants in support centres. It will comprise assessment criteria to be used with immigrants in the planned Service and Support Centre as well as in other contexts. At meta level, the suitable methodological criteria will be developed on the basis of existing assessment models identified through a targeted research and observation. The methodology for Language skills assessment needs to be coherent with mainstreaming approaches, so to assure opportunities for transferability and adoption in a variety of contexts. Furthermore, the methodology should also comprise tools for self-analysis and self-assessment of language skills, as a process that each individual can carry out on his/her own.

Guide to learning L2

The Guide addresses the needs of teachers, trainers and practitioners working with immigrants in support centres.

The Guide will be centred on the following core questions:

  • “How to value the language skills that the user already has?”
  • “How to value and enhance these skills so to support the user’s learning process and advancement in language mastery?”
  • “How to improve language skills coherently with professional needs as well as with social inclusion needs?”

The E-DRIM Guide to Learning L2 will comprise key methodological criteria to be used with immigrants in the planned Service and Support Centre as well as in other contexts. At meta level, the suitable methodological criteria will be developed based on the analysis of mainstreaming approaches and methodologies already used by renowned and recognised institutes.
